Ichigo is out on a hot date with her 'crush' when suddenly she's involved in an odd incident in which her DNA is merged with the DNA of an almost extinct wildcat. When four other girls' DNA is merged with the DNA of four other almost extinct animals, it's apparent that they're part of a much bigger plan. Ichigo and her friends have been chosen to become a part of a secret project called the "Mew Project." Their mission: To protect the planet from aliens who are using the planet's animals to attack humans.

And then the Mew Mew team's adventures continue in Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode, wherein a new Mew named Berry joins forces with the girls against a brand-new gang of baddies known as the Crusaders ...

Iriomote cat
Size: Under 2ft long,
About: Only found in Japan, the population of the Iriomote cat is thought to be less than 100. It is a subspecies of the Leopard family, it is consdered to be one of the most rarest and endangered species of wildcat, as it mainly habitats lowland coastal regions, it brings it into conflict where people live. The cat hunts by night, and eats small mammals and fish. It is classified an endagered species by the IUCN.

Minto.

Ultramarine Lorikeet
Size: 18 cm.
About: Originally found in the Marquesas Islands, they now can only be found in Ua Huka and Fatu Hiva. They are usually in pairs or by themselves, rarely in flocks, they live the the canopy layer of the trees (the top) They eat mainly pollen, nectar, fruit and small insects. The Ultramarine Lori is one of the most threatened species of Lori. when settlers came to the Island, their numbers decreased rapidly. They are now being reintroduced, but these areas where they are introduced have to be free of rats, mainly the black rat, as it eats the Lori's eggs and young.

Retasu/Lettuce:

Finless Porpoise Neophocana Phocasenoides
Size: Avg. 5 ft, Aprox. 88 lbs in weight.
Habitat: Spans from the Oceans of Japan to Iran. Known for it's adorable smooth face, it was named a Japanese Natural Monument in 1930. Unlike other porpoises, it travels in groups insetad of large pods. It is hunted for it's blubber and meat :( Fishermen also catch it to prevent them from damaging their fising nets, it's numbers in the wild are steadily decreasing.

Purin.

Golden lion tamarin/Golden lion marmoset
Size: 8-14 inches long + 12-15 inch tail.
About: They live in the trees, and are about the same size as a squirrel, they have a lion type mane from which they get their name. They eat insects, small lizardsm snails, fruit and vegetables. They live about 15 years, and live in small groups. They are in danger of becoming extinct because the forest home in which they live is being cleared :(

Zakuro.

Grey Wolf
Size: Weigh at about 55 - 130, the males are generally larger than the females.
About: They used to habitat most of North America, but now can usually only be found in Alaska and Canada. They have been hunted in near extinction, it's population has decreased by over 50%. The wolves live in packs, and hunt usually at night, and they hunt larger mammals.

Ringo.

Humboldt Penguin
Size: Abot 27 inches tall.
About: Records actually suggest that penguins once could fly, but apdated to become a flightless marine bird about 70 million years ago. Their wings are more like flippers, which make them fast swimmers. Like most cold climate animals, they have a thick layer of blubber to insulate them. They nest on islands of mainland coast, they eat fish and squid. They are endangered because of commercial dishing and pollution. They have been hunted for their meat, oil and skin. enguins and their eggs have been taken for zoos and private collectors. Penguins have also been drowning in fishing nets, and have been killed due to oil spills:(
